Looking to become a lifeguard? Below are our lifeguard classes. Fill out a lifeguard class registration form with the class dates if you are ready or fill out an inquiry if you have any questions.
Class requirements

Student must be 15 years of age by the last day of class.

$50 non-refundable deposit must be paid to secure spot in the class PRIOR to the class.

Remaining payment must be paid in CASH or CHECK (Check can be made out to Swim Houston Pool Management) at the swim test.

Student can pay for the class in full through our website.

Class payment is non-refundable.

Payment plan is available for Swim Houston employees only. Please email lifeguard@swimhoustonpools.com for more information regarding payment plans.

Student must attend all class dates in each session

Student is responsible for providing own swim wear and towel for the swim test and lifeguarding portion of the class (goggles not recommended).

Female students are encouraged to wear a one piece swimsuit or 2 piece guard suit. Please refrain from wearing string bikinis.

Male students are encouraged to wear boarding shorts or swim trunks. Please refrain from wearing speedos.

Job application will be given out at the swim test. Application must be returned to instructor on the second day of class along with a copy of student's ID and social security card.

* Swim Houston reserves all rights to cancel a class session. Students will be moved to the next available class.*

requirements
The following will be tested at the swim test. ​

Must be 15 years of age by the last day of class

Swim 300 yards non-stop using either breast stroke or front crawl.
-
Tread in water for 2 minutes with arms under armpits or in the air.
-
Swim 20 yards, dive 10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, and swim 20 yards facing up with holding object with both hands.

RECERTIFICATION
Employee who wishes to get re-certified must have an American Red Cross Lifeguard & CPR/AED certification within the last two years.

Re-certification is only available for those who are entering their 3rd+ years of lifeguarding.
-
Swim Houston instructors has the right to request a student to take the full course if skills requirements are not met.
-
Recertification course is only available for those who has previously been employed with Swim Houston.
-
New employee must take the full certification course.

BLENDED LEARNING INSTRUCTIONS
The following instruction is for the blended learning certification program. ​This program is available for new certification and recertification.

Prospective employee must register for a swim test date and an in person class session.
-
Prospective employee must complete and pass swim test before receiving class materials for in person class date.

Once a prospective employee complete and pass swim test, instructors will email employee materials to complete the online portion of the course. All online material must be completed prior to in person class.

Prospective employee must bring proof of online completion and CPR certification to the in-person class.
-
Instructors have the right to reschedule a student if online portion is incomplete prior to in-person class.
-
Prospective employee must attend all class date in each session including 1 swim test date.
-
Once prospective employee complete training course, an office manager will reach out to schedule an orientation date.
